My trip happened to overlap with my mom's trip to Phoenix with her sisters to visit some extended relatives, so after checking in at our hotel and grabbing dinner, we met up at their hotel for a drink. My mom and her sisters are hilarious and it was so enjoyable to kick back and relax on the patio in warm weather.
I'm not used to having a travel companion on work trips, so having my boss here has been an extra special treat! Our days are filled with office work, so I thought I'd share our dining experiences so far!
Bar Louie: Yeah, this is a chain, but it was reliably good food when we were both borderline hangry after flying all day. We split the Grilled Macaroni and Cheese sandwich and a flatbread pizza, and enjoyed tasty drinks on their patio.
Postino: A group of four of us grabbed dinner at Postino, a great wine bar with a nice patio (in April, we'll see about June/July/August). Our waiter was able to make great beer and wine suggestions for us, no small feat considering the number of drink options they offer. We ordered a few small plates to share and loved everything. Definitely on my list for my next visit.
Snooze: I haven't had a chance to check out this breakfast and brunch restaurant, but I got a peek inside after diner at Postino and posted a picture on Instagram when my cousin raved about it. I'm definitely going to check out when I stay over one weekend.
Macayo's: A very colorful restaurant with a large patio. We went for lunch with a large group - the guacamole was great, and I was a big fan of the chipotle chicken quesadilla I ordered. Lunch was pretty tame, but I could totally see it being busy and fun on nights and weekends, especially since it's so close to ASU's campus.
Lion's Head Bar & Grill: My boss and I had a project we wanted to work on, so we dropped off our bags and changed into casual clothes and set off to find another patio. Can you tell we're two midwestern girls who love Arizona's warm weather? We drove around a nearby mall and found the Lion's Head, and after a quick wait (they'll text you when you're table is ready!) we camped out on the patio for several hours with good food and cold drinks while we slaved away on my computer. The German pretzel appetizer was okay, and the margarita pizza was pretty good but no match for my favorite pizza back home.
Zipps Sports Grill: A last minute lunch decision near ASU's campus. We both had entree salads that were good, but the service was slow out on the patio where (surprise!) we sat. I'd go again if someone suggested it, but probably won't go out of my way to try again.
The Dhaba: James is not a big fan of Indian food, so I figured I could get my fix while out of town. A coworker described this as the best in town, but I was a little underwhelmed. Maybe it was because he had talked it up so much, but it was good but not memorable. I'll probably give this another chance on a future trip before I make up my mind.
